Powerful pussies, bad societies, Neil Young… and other reasons why I have no time for romance novels

When I was done school, I promised myself I'd read books unrelated to my current field of study. That I'd escape a little more into a fantasy world, and maybe dive into a romance novel or two. I pictured myself getting lusty over Jamie Fraser with a novel from Diana Gabaldon. As you can see from this shelf of current and upcoming reads..this hasn't gone too well so far.

We like what we like, I suppose. So far I've just reinforced my own beliefs and confirmed my worst fears and learned a few cool things about interesting people along the way.

As it turns out, the authors of these books have both deepened my horizons and convinced me to hold the line on how I view the world. And though they're all speckled with different messages, taken together, they build towards a cohesive understanding of the world. It's easy to infer from this collection, for example, that society going to hell in a hand basket with capitalism which only serves to make us

mentally unwell by disconnecting us from self and others, our kids need us to guide them NOT their peers or the newest iPhone, technology is out of control, living an authentic, creative life is possible but you have to let go of all fucks. Aside from that, Neil Young is the GOAT, and Hunter S. Thompson and DFW were both crazy in the best way. Oh AND... Brown, Tsabary, Dass, Klein, Chomsky and Mate continue to be the most rational, empathic and brilliant minds of our time. There's a lot more I learned, but I'll spare you the ramblings of a highfalutin book reviewer. This isn't Goodreads.

Oh, I also learned my vagina is a limitless powerhouse and has the potential to thrust me into greatness. Pun intended.

What else is there?
